Ok everyone. Today I made it out for a ride. It was nice to get back on a bike for the first time in about eight months. I had the priviledge of riding with the finest riders on Alsportbike as usual. However under unfortunate circumstances. Joe went down today in a hairpin turn on Hwy. 25. Not sure exactly what happened. However we do know there is a skid mark and then marks from where he low sided and his kick stand and metal scraped the concrete. He slid under the guardrail and his bike did the same. I managed to capture some pics of the events aftermath.

Joe is currently in the hospital at UAB with a broken leg and in surgery. Let's keep Joe in our prayers and wish him a quick recovery.

best guess is he throttled before the apex and spun it out, then low sided and skid down the hill

I was one bike back from him and could see him in my peripheral vision, but was not looking at him. We were not going fast through that turn

Man this sucks ass. Joe is a good rider and I have had the pleasure of riding with him. I hope the best for him. Oh and Jim, this was probably not an occasion to get undressed for.

+1 on Fence... His first surgery went well, they are working on his leg now. Doc said he is not out of the woods yet. If you pray, pray for Joe and his family. The next 48 hours should tell how well he is doing.

Hey joe this is jonathon aka snakebite i was ridding on the silver fz1 that hooked up with yall on co rd 32 just wanted to let you know that you will be in our prayrs and i am glad to hear that you are doing ok .

yea, I could have classified Joe as being one of our more "dependable" riders. I dont think he made the mistake of hitting the brakes or anything. he does right stright up, however. I believe his stright up riding style had his bike leaned further than the rest of us. so when he got onto the throttle after the apex, the rear broke free, lowsiding him right into the rail...

hopefully he will make a speedy recovery.

I just heard from his wife. Joe is in a chemically induced coma. Ribs broken in both sides and a head injury. Will know more tomorrow. I plan to be at the hospital tomorrow around lunch, text me if you want to visit.

Hope he recovers fast...how is he doing now ?

Just heard from Doug, then Joe's wife. Good news is Joe had an uneventful night. There was no change in condition, although further x-rays found some facial fractures on the left and right sides. They will figure out what do do with them when he gets out of critical condition. She has been able to see him and has some friends and family around to support her.

Will update again this evening if I get any more word.

What kind of helmet was he wearing, facial fractures and other head trauma. I hope he can get over this but it is going to be a long road apparently.

Damn! Hope you heal up better than you were before, Joe!

Got some somewhat good news. Joe is going back into surgery, they initially left him open with some absorption material to absorb any remaining blood. His pressure has stayed steady so they are going back in to check for any more bleeding, then close him up today instead of tomorrow. While they have him under they are going to look at the facial fractures and repair whatever damage was done. With luck they should be able to bring Joe out of his coma much earlier than originally planned.

Will update again after he gets out of this next surgery.
